Day 1

Arrival at Windhoek International Airport. We will meet you and advise you on exchanging money, shopping, security etc. Windhoek, being the capital of Namibia is by far the biggest city in this country and has many different faces. A thorough city tour takes us through all the historical, colonial, modern and other interesting parts of Windhoek. Obviously you will have some time to relax or to go shopping.

In the afternoon we depart for a short gamedrive in an open vehicle to make you feel welcome in Africa. Various species of antelope, some curious giraffe, and numerous species of birds and with some luck even a white rhinoceros might await you in this dry woodland and savannah.

Lunch and dinner are enjoyed in the centre of this multicultural city. Since Windhoek has many good restaurants, mostly with German character, it is really worth while dining in town.

Day 2 & 3

A scenic drive south opens the wide geological variety Namibia has to offer. Most of Namibias South is covered by enormous sandstone layers, ripped through by basaltic ridges and decorated with gigantic granite Plutons. On a 56 000 ha game area of the farm Nomtsas, we will do various gamedrives on the lookout for black rhino, giraffes, various antelope, warthog and many more. What makes the area so special is the overwhelmingly barren red sandstone landscape with its green valleys of the ephemeral rivers, which provide food and shelter for game one would never expect to find here.

A geological fault zone runs through the centre of Namibia, creating the Damara orogenic belt. The Naukluft Mountains, consisting of high folded and shifted dolomite, granite and various tufa formations, are on our agenda for one day. We explore this interesting range by adventurous drives up the plateau and by foot. While giving the impression of a harsh, dry and unfriendly environment, the Naukluft hides many idyllic spots to be discovered. The area is simply laden with birdlife.

Day 4 & 5

A very early rise- we are heading for Sossusvlei, the cradle of the highest dunes worldwide, a true must see for every traveller. As the sun appears from behind, the breathtaking beauty of red Dunes unfold before our eyes. The conglomerate of geology appears like a giant carving in sand, soil and rock, decorated by monstrous trees and rare plants. The Sossusvlei, being a pan, or depression at the dead end of the Tsauchab River, is considered a floral paradise surrounded by up to 300m high dunes. A walk through the various Vleis will give a good idea of the interesting adaptations all the organisms have developed to survive in these dry circumstances. The spectacular view from above the dunes definitely makes the tiresome walk worthwhile.

Not far of we hike through the deep and narrow Sesriem canyon, imagining years and years of continuous deposition and erosion. The area is a true eye-opener and most people long to see it again and capture maybe one more perfect shot of this desert so beautiful.

Day 6 & 7

The scenic drive along the edge of the desert, or escarpment as geologists would call it, tells many a story of geology and its origin. On the long way to the Atlantic, Lderitzbucht being our destination, we meet the feral horses of Namibia, controversial survivors of the desert. Why anyone would build a town in the middle of naked rock, protruding into the ocean, makes people wonder. The bay, in those days called Angra Pequena (still bay), the rich guano deposits on the islands and the discovery of diamonds, turned Lderitzbucht into the strange town it is today. Our days will be spent visiting old colonial buildings, the historic Diaz cross, erected 1487 by Bartholomew Diaz, exploring the many interesting bays around Lderitzbucht and visiting the diamond ghost town Kolmanskop. We will also be taking a trip on a sailboat to Halifax Island, since the only land living Penguin the African Penguin, is to be found here.

Day 8 & 9

Nowhere else in Africa is there anything like Fish River canyon. The Fish has been gouging out this gorge, this tremendous depth (550m) of bizarre form and colour, for over 50 million years with stunning results to a. On our way we visit a Prison War Camp near Aus, a historical leftover of the 1st World war. Since the Fishriver drains about 20% of Namibias surface, it is the biggest ephemeral river in Namibia. An early visit will provide the best light for photos and give the adventurous the chance of hiking alongside the edge to get the most of it.

Day 10 & 11

On our way to Augrabies, we stop at the quivertree forest near the Orange River. The Augrabies National Park gives visitors many options on how to spend their day, hiking, canoeing, cycling, short game drives or simply wandering around the granite landscape on the lookout for birds, klipspringer and sometimes eland antelope.

There is only one place in this world to see animals wandering around red linear dunes, lying under Camelthorn trees and hiding behind bright yellow grass. That is the Kalahari. Often a long game drive along the Auob and Nossob riverbeds will be rewarded by sightings of lion, cheetah or even leopard, although Wildebeest, Ostrich, Springbok, Steenbok and even Eland keep entertaining its visitors.
