Drive yourself into Cape Town to the Winchester Mansions Hotel, situated on the Atlantic Seaboard in Sea Point, Cape Town. The remainder of the day is spent at leisure. Explore the Waterfront, with its variety of shops and restaurants, take the ferry to Robben Island, explore the city centre or take the cable car up Table Mountain for a spectacular view over the peninsular.
Overnight at Winchester Mansions, in Classic Room, on a bed & breakfast basis
Today you are free to explore Cape Town and the surrounding area. You may choose to take a drive via Camps Bay and Hout Bay on your way to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope, returning via Simonstown, Muizenburg and the Southern Suburbs. If time allows, you might even be able to take a stroll in the beautiful Kirstenbosch Gardens at the foot of Table Mountain. The day is yours and can be spent at leisure exploring the Mother City.
Overnight at Winchester Mansions, in Classic Room, on a bed & breakfast basis
The famous Cape Winelands beckons and today can be spent visiting your choice of the numerous private wine estates in the region. Explore the university city of Stellenbosch and take in a picnic on one of the picturesque wine farms in the area. Towards the afternoon, you make your way into the historical town of Franschhoek. This beautiful town, displaying rich French Huguenot traditions, is situated in the Franschhoek valley and will be your host for the night.
Overnight at one of many privately owned and operated Guesthouses in Franschhoek on a bed & breakfast basis.
Today you head north-west to experience yet another strong South African culture evident along the west coast of the country. The journey takes you via Paarl and the "Swartland" farming district of Malmesbury northward on the N7, via the citrus farming communities of Piketberg and Citusdal and further via Clanwilliam, where you head west before arriving in Lamberts Bay. The village's white beaches and blue sea offer ample opportunities for sea adventure and sports. Visitors can view gannets, cormorants, penguins and seals at Bird Island, which attracts ornithologists from all over the world. No visit is complete without visiting one of its famous open-air restaurants for an unforgettable traditional meal.
Overnight at one of the owner managed Guest Houses in this picturesque coastal Village on a bed & breakfast basis.
Explore the west coast region around Lamberts Bay or simply relax in this quaint little fishing village, visit the Sandveld Museum and the Steenbokfontein art gallery. Enjoy a seafood feast of great proportions or participate in one of the many optional 4x4 excursions, whale watching and/or birdwatching activities that this area and town have to offer.

Today you travel further north on your way to Namibia and head toward the heart of the Namaqualand. Set in a narrow valley bisecting the granite domes of the Klein Koperberge (small copper mountains), is the principal town of Namakwa, Springbok. Namakwa, as part of the Succulent Karoo, is a biodiversity hotspot and as such is the only arid hotspot in the world. It contains more than 6 000 plant species, 250 species of birds, 78 species of mammals, 132 species of reptiles and amphibians and an unknown number of insects, making it the world's most diverse, arid environment. More than 40% of these species are found nowhere else on Earth.
Overnight at Annies Cottage in Springbok on a bed & breakfast basis.
After breakfast, you head further north to the Gariep River at Vioolsdrift. This is the border between South Africa and Namibia. From here on to the Ais Ais hot spring area and then to the Fish River Canyon. If you arrive in time, a good idea would be to drive to the Fish River Canyon viewpoint for sunset, a magnificent site in the barren landscape.
Overnight at Canon Lodge on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
From the Fish River area you travel west to the small frontier town of Aus and then on to Klein Aus Vista where you will stay at the Eagle Nest Bungalows. Take a hike on one of the trails, a super experience! Another option is to go with the lodge staff to go and see the wild desert horses, one of the few places left on earth where they roam free.
Overnight at Klein Aus Vista Eagle Nest Chalets on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Today you will drive west to Luderitz for a full day excursion. This is real desert where, in some places, the dunes encroach onto the tar road! Visit the Kolmanskop Ghost Town (arrange this in advance from Klein Asus Vista), remnants of old diamond mining houses. Other places to visit would be Pelican Point as well as Diaz point. An interesting town, which has not changed much in the last few decades! Return to Klein Aus Vista (the reason you stay here is to shorten the next day's drive)

The road north today goes through wide-open plains, the edge of the Namib Naukluft Park, beautiful scenery with dry river beds where acacia trees eke out a living. Stop at one or two interesting sociable weaver nests where up to a hundred birds nest and rear their young.
The next two nights will be at the Desert Homestead Lodge (or similar) on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Today will be one of the highlights of the holiday when you visit the Sossusvlei dunes area of the Namib Desert. Your lodge will be able to tell you what time the gate opens (sunrise) and will serve an early breakfast so that you can get to the gate in time. The drive from the gate to the dunes will take about an hour so arriving as early as possible is the best for light and also before it gets too hot. You can spend the whole day here if you wish on photography, climb dunes, visit the amazing Dead Pan as well as places such as Dune 45 and the Sesriem Gorge.
Overnight at the Desert Homestead again on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
From Desert Homestead you drive north to the small town called Solitaire and then west to the Atlantic Ocean, the Skeleton Coast. The road goes through wide open plains, through the Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons and then the gravel plains of the Namib Desert before arriving at Walvis Bay. Visit the lagoon, home to hundreds of flamingoes, pelican and numerous waders before driving north between the ocean and the dunes to Swakopmund. Swakopmund is a lovely coastal town with a German feel, remnants of the days when this part of the world was a German colony. Here there are numerous restaurants and I would advise the following:
Overnight at the Europahof Hotel on a bed & breakfast basis.
The whole day is set aside to spend in the lovely area where activities include:
Europahof Hotel on bed & breakfast
Drive north along the Skeleton Coast, past Henties Bay to Cape Cross to visit the seal colony. From here travel inland through wide open plains to the derelict tin mine, Uis and then north to the Twyfelfontein area. The scenery changes from flat, open desert to granite hill formations as well as volcanic intrusions. The area is commonly known as Damaraland, the area where the Damara people of Namibia have been living for about 6000 years.
Overnight at the Twyfelfontein Lodge on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Visit the Twyfelfontein rock engravings and paintings before heading east via Khorixas to the Etosha National Park. On the road to Khorixas, I would suggest that you stop over at the petrified forest where one of the local guides will show you these interesting rock formations, tress of days gone by.
Accommodation will be at one of the Etosha Park Resorts, in a bungalow or room. No meals are included in Etosha but there is a restaurant available.
These days are spent in Etosha on game drives and game viewing at numerous waterholes. Etosha is one of the few places where animals can be seen in large numbers in the middle of the day when they congregate at waterholes. This time of the day being the safest when the predators are not active and resting. Etosha is a large park of over 22000 square kilometers, originally proclaimed in 1907 so 2007 is the centenary year!
Accommodation will be at one of the Etosha Park Resorts, in a bungalow or room. No meals are included in Etosha but there is a restaurant available.
Today you will exit Etosha and travel south past Tsumeb and Otjiwarongo to the Waterberg plateau area. The lodge is situated close to the Waterberg and you should have enough time to visit this lovely area for a short hike in the afternoon.
Waterberg Wilderness lodge on a dinner, bed & breakfast basis.
Your holiday ends in Windhoek to day when you drop off your car at the airport.
